The Aastra Trek for Peace

The Aastra Trek for Peace is the voluntary effort of a few Aastra employees.
With this annual trek, it is our objective to raise funds for the Eagle Down Foundation (www.eagledown.org). This foundation is a charitable organization that seeks to support children in conflict zones around the globe, with a vision and commitment to a more peaceful and prosperous world. It is through the funding and implementation of peace education initiatives, summer camps and workshops, that The Eagle Down Foundation encourages children to act as a symbol of unity in a world often divided by ethno-religious borders.
The objective of this trek is to leverage the donations of the corporation by seeking pledges from all employees and friends.
In 2004, we completed the Long Range Traverse in Newfoundland's Gros Morne National Park and we were able to fund a Peace Camp in Montenegro. Last year we were able to complete La Integral de los 3,000 Metros in Spain's Sierra Nevadas (www.trekforpeace2005.blogspot.com) and raised sufficient funds to organize a Peace Camp in India.
This year our objective is to raise $50,000 to fund 3 camps, one in the Balkans: Montenegro, and 2 in the Caucasus: Georgia and Abkhazia. For more details on this challenging program follow the link: http://www.eagledown.org/2006plan.htm . In order to raise the necessary funds for these camps, this year we completed a trek through the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes of Peru.
